"MERLOT TO GO ACT"

Perhaps the biggest alcohol related news since prohibition was repealed, Ohio lawmakers have made an adjustment in the Open Flask Law that allows restaurants and wineries to re-cork and seal wines opened at the table so they can be taken home to be finished. The law went into effect on September 20, 2006. In short, the law permits us to put the cork back in the bottle if you don't finish it at your table, apply a seal that is easily identified if tampered with, and allow you to take it with you when you leave.
It is the responsibility of the customer to put the open bottle in the trunk, behind the rear most upright seat or to the furthest rear of the vehicle where it is not accessible by the driver and passengers in the vehicle.
We at Henke Wine believe that this is much safer than our guests feeling they have to consume any open bottles before they leave and risk a D.U.I. Or worse on the way home. For years, we have suggested to guests who wanted to take open bottles home, that they contact State officials to have the law changed. We thank everyone who followed through on that suggestion.
As always, we encourage all of our guests to know your limit and drink responsibly.
